Every week, "What's Happening in Brazil" host Pamela Oliveira brings English-speaking audiences the latest news about our country - Screen capture/Brasil de Fato

This episode of What’s Happening in Brazil reports on the unprecedented classification of the Mariana dam disaster, in 2015, as an “exceptionally serious human rights violation.” The Samarco dam collapse killed 19 people and devastated communities, and many survivors are still unable to return to their homes.

We also report on evidence that suggests that senator Flávio Bolsonaro, one of president Jair Bolsonaro’s sons, could be involved in a huge embezzling and corruption scheme.

This week’s Culture Talk is about the Create Like a Girl Festival, a project to bring women artists together and fight sexism in the art world.

The Story of the Week tells the story of two young men who were wrongfully accused of stealing a crime, and even though they had an alibi and evidence to prove their innocence, they were held in prison for ten months.

And as we approach the holidays, this week’s Brazilianism segment shows you a recipe for an easy-to-make dish that is great for a Christmas dinner in Brazilian homes: roasted chicken with couscous.
