Journalist Pamela Oliveira hosts our weekly English-language show featuring the latest news and fun facts about Brazil - Screen capture/Brasil de Fato

This week on What’s Happening in Brazil, in commemoration of International Women’s Day, we bring you a special report showcasing how the feminist movement is at the forefront of social change, and discovering new ways to strengthen and grow. Also learn about the fight of rural women against violence, racism, the patriarchy and their rights.

In our culture talk segment, the show introduces you to a dance local to northeastern Brazil and its matricarch – considered living heritage of the state of Pernambuco – Lia de Itamaracá. In an interview, she discusses her dreams and inspirations, and maps out the trajectory of her career.

Also, find out why former Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was awarded an honor by the city of Paris, once bestowed upon indigenous leader Chief Raoni, and South African leader Nelson Mandela.

Finally, learn yet another delicious recipe from Brazil and listen to a sub genre of country music that is spearheaded by women.

All What's Happening in Brazil episodes are available at Brasil de Fato's YouTube channel, where you'll also find a special English-content playlist.

Partners who wish to include a longer version of the show in their schedule may our international team at [email protected] or send a WhatsApp message to +55 11 993 055 156.
